As presented to the right there are three types of earthworms that we recommend for use in your organic gardening: The Red Wiggler Worm, The European Night Crawler Worm and the Canadian Night Crawler Worm.
While the first two worms are used in recycling and composting the Canadian Night Crawler worms are distributed on the lawns and in the gardens. Earthworms are Mother Nature’s own mini plows: they consume decaying organic matter, leaves and lawn thatch and as they burrow through the earth they cycle nutrients from below ground and deposit their nutrient rich castings to fertilize lawns and gardens.
These worms also aerate your lawn and garden by burrowing down into the ground. They create tunnels that can range 2 meters deep and 4 meters across. As they travel they in turn deposit rich worm castings to also fertilize the soils of your lawn and garden.
The burrows which the earthworms create have several benefits: they create air passages that bring oxygen down to the root zone for your grass and trees plus these burrows also channel down rain water which assists in hydrating your root zone.
This helps you to save money by watering less. The castings are very beneficial as they contain micronutrients that are immediately available to feed your plants and won't harm their delicate root system. Mother Nature’s organic fertilizer.
